About us
Rafvélar is a licensed electrical contractor (löggiltur rafverktaki). The owner and founder is Jón Viðar Viðarsson, a mechanical engineer, master electrician and master machinist.
Jón Viðar Viðarsson
Jón Viðar founded Rafvélar and is a mechanical engineer (vélfræðingur), master electrician (rafvirkjameistari) and master machinist (vélvirkjameistari). Those three trades together explain why Rafvélar works on machinery, factories and ordinary electrical installations alike: one person knows the machine, the wiring that feeds it and the connection between the two.
Mechanical engineer (vélfræðingur)
Trained in mechanical engineering, with knowledge of machinery and how it runs.
Master electrician (rafvirkjameistari)
A master's qualification in electrical work, which is the basis for a contractor's licence.
Master machinist (vélvirkjameistari)
A master's qualification in machine work, installation and maintenance of machinery.
What a licensed electrical contractor means for you
Electrical installation work may only be carried out under the responsibility of a licensed electrical contractor. The licence means the work is backed by someone with a master's qualification who carries professional responsibility for the installation being correctly done and finished. For a customer, that is the difference between work someone answers for and work no one does.
Licence and quality system
Jón Viðar holds a B-löggilding (class B electrical contractor licence) and an approved quality system (samþykkt gæðakerfi) in Landsskrá rafverktaka, the national register of electrical contractors held by Húsnæðis- og mannvirkjastofnun (HMS).
Rafvélar has taken on projects at every level of industry.
